Feya Cafe
Feya Cafe Review
Sundae Girl
Feya Cafe, which opened in May 2018, follows the trend of Instagrammable eateries, boasting a pretty interior of blossoms and butterflies tastefully decorating the marbled greys and blush pinks.
So on a rainy Sunday morning, the Sober Sisters paid @feyacafe a visit. The breakfast menu is compact and healthy, promoting superfoods and vegan options. If a full English is what you’re after, this is not for you! Not a greasy sausage in sight!
Service was a little slow as we were left at our waiting table for some time, only to be told we have to order and pay at the till beforehand.
The first dish we sampled was the 'Rose Avo Toast', topped with beet hummus, slices of beautifully arranged avocado and garnished with an edible pansy. There was the option to have this plain, or with either poached egg or smoked salmon. This particular dish was the stand out breakfast dish, creatively presented with attention to detail, the sweet nutty flavours of the beetroot hummus alongside the buttery texture of the avocado worked really well and the salty smoked salmon was an amazing accompaniment.
Next up were the ‘Happiness Pancakes’, American style pancakes topped with peanut butter and coconut, tastefully decorated with whipped cream flowers, blueberries and banana. The flavour combination of the peanut butter and the coconut was ingenuous and again the presentation was on point. The next two breakfast options are both vegan and gluten free but they were slightly disappointing.
'Be Gentle' a layered dish of oats, caramel chia pudding and raspberries was pleasant enough, but until we hit the raspberries at the bottom there was a lack of flavour. I was searching for more of a hint of caramel but I could not really find it. The 'Pastle Rainbow Smoothie' looked like a work of art but was disappointing, a bowl of banana smoothie with a tablespoon of granola in it. There was supposed to be pineapple and coconut milk but the banana was so overpowering, these flavours were lost. Sadly a thumbs down from the Sober Sisters. However, I felt a smaller portion of the smoothie and more granola might have made this a better dish.
The hot chocolate at @feyacafe was definitely a winner and they have a variety of lattes. The regular latte was pretty decent and the Spanish latte was sweet and indulgent.
The beetroot latte was among the quite unusual lattes served and was bit more of an acquired taste, although Modest Moiselle quite enjoyed it.
Feya's array of pastries and cakes look very impressive and appetising displayed on the counter and, as were so full from breakfast, we took a few treats home. The cakes were a bit of a mixed bag.
The passion fruit slice was lovely and light as was the mango cheesecake, which, despite this, was a little deceptive as it wasn’t quite actually a cheesecake.
The chocolate caramel explosion, which I enjoyed, held a light moussey centre, but darkly rich in taste. The pistachio donut, however, only resembled a donut in shape, and had a bit of a strange texture, a layer of cake with a layer of mousse on top, with a layer of mango in between, which I didn’t feel worked well.
Although a little more of style over substance, Feya cafe is a good option if you are after a light and healthy breakfast or a quick coffee in between a hard day’s shop on Oxford Street.
