Elan Cafe Review
Sundae Girl
Elan cafe was probably one of THE most instrgrammed eateries in London of 2018. With five branches London wide, the Elancafe franchise seems to be one of the fastest growing in London.
The Sober Sisters paid the Brompton Road branch a visit to find out what all the fuss was about. No doubt, the cafe itself is beautiful to look at with a number of floral displays and the ever popular flower wall.
The restaurant was buzzing when we arrived and we had a short wait before being seated.
In terms of the savoury items we ordered, a couple really hit the spot - the Burford Brown poached eggs and avacado toasts (one with eggs and one with salmon) were both well presented and very tasty.
The halloumi fries with the sour cream dip was also a big hit, although the fried courgettes which accompanied them were a little soggy.
The roast beef sandwich was a little dry although the tangy flavours of the relishes did lift this dish a little. The chicken goujons had potential but lacked seasoning, and it’s accompanying harissa dip could have done with a little more zing. Lastly, we ordered a healthy breakfast option - the berry and hazelnut chia porridge with cashew milk. This looked and tasted beautiful, combination of the fruit and hazelnut flavours and textures worked really well.
A tempting array of cake and pastries welcomed us as soon as we stepped through the doors of Elancafe so you can imagine, we were really looking forward to the sweet treats.
Both the Nutella cheesecake and the peanut butter cheesecake were light and scrumptious. The triple chocolate mousse was also pretty decent, although I would have liked it a bit more rich in terms of the chocolate flavours. The churros were beautifully crisp and sweet and the chocolate dipping sauce was on point, dark and rich.
In terms of hot drinks, the Nutella hot chocolate was delicious and sweet but I expected more from the Woodland hot chocolate, the heavy topping of marshmallows seemed to carry most of the flavour and sweetness, the chocolate itself was a little bland. With so much riding on hype and high expection, Elan is sure to divide opinion. Some of the dishes needed a little tweaking but the general food quality was good and our experience at Elan was enjoyable. We would happily visit again!
